The Golden Circle

The tour is called the Golden Circle because of Gullfoss (golden waterfall)  seen on this tour.  It falls 32 meters into a 80 meter deep canyon. Other sights are the Thingvellir National Park with the Tectonic Rift, and the American and Eurasian Rift Zone which is known as Unesco Cultural World Heritage Site. The geysir geothermal area and the active spouting spring Strokkur are also included.

Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon

Prepare for a long day ahead on this tour and do not forget to take something to snack and drink. We drive past most of the sights of southern Iceland. Visible are waterfalls like Seljalandsfoss and Skógarfoss. The tour continues into the area of the Vatnajökull Plato Glacier, which is Europe's largest at around 8000 square kilometers. The glacier is hidden behind the mountains like a small remnant of the Little Ice Age.  Arriving at the glacier lagoon, a natural spectacle should take place where the calving icebergs of the glacier swim visibly in the more than 240 meters deep lagoon and give the example of the Icelandic nature and landscape.

Return to Reykjavik is late at night and you should expect a 14 to 15 hour tour.

The Reykjanes peninsula

The Reykjanes peninsula is a tourist attraction that is a secret tip for many travelers. The pristine nature of the peninsula with the lunar landscape of Lake Kleifarvatn and the Seltún geothermal area are an example of the diversity of an Icelandic nature. The area is very young on a geological scale.  At a depth of one thousand meters the groundwater is more than 150 degrees Celsius. The Svartsengi geothermal power plant near the fishing village of Grindavík with the Blue Lagoon is an example of how Icelanders use their geothermal energy. On the south side of the peninsula you will find the  mud springs Gunnuhverir and the rocky coast Reykjanesviti where old volcanic cores washed by the sea surf are. Further north is the bridge over the continents where you can cross over from the European continental plate to America within a few seconds.

Snorkelling and diving

Snorkelling and diving experiences are very different in the north of the Atlantic than in warm regions. Also, the seabed around Iceland is mostly black because of black ash or dark lava rocks. The most popular snorkel and dive site in Iceland is the Silfra fissure where you can snorkel and dive in the Rift System of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge between the continental plate of America and the continental plate of Eurasia. The dive suits for the Silfra fissure are mostly drysuits that provide insulation from the water, which is about 2 degrees Celsius. But you can also snorkel in freediving wetsuits. In the Silfra fissure you have up to 100 visibility in clear water where you can explore the lava cracks of the Thingvellir National Park.   We offer bookings for tours in Silfra.  Additionally we also offer snorkeling experiences for beginners at Nauthólsvík beach where you can often see sand eels, jellyfish and sea algae.  Snorkelling gear and wetsuits provided.

Iceland's south coast

Iceland is often called the Land of the Falls. On the south coast of Iceland you can see numerous waterfalls. Like the 65 meter high Seljarlandsfoss and the 62 meter high Skógarfoss. Besides that, you are in the area of many active volcanoes. Iceland is said to be no bigger due to the Rift Zone but because of the many active volcanoes below the Great Glacier to the south. An active volcano is located below the Mýrdals Glacier and Sólheimjökull strides down from Mýrdalsjökull. In the 1918 eruption, quantities of sediment descended to the coast and filled it up.
